It is with much sadness that the RAFA RAF St Mawgan Branch has to report the sudden passing of Gordon Plant, valued member of our newly formed branch. We extend our condolences to Rosemarie and their family at this very sad time along with any support that they need.
Gordon was Hon Secretary of the Birmingham Central Branch of RAFA for over 15 years during which time he organised the usual outings, speakers and social events throughout the year. On the 15th of September each year he organised a Commemoration Service at the Hall of Memory in Birmingham to which he invited the Lord Lieutenant, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, the Chief Constable along with various Civic Dignitaries, the Wing Commander and other members of RAF Cosford. Local boys and girls from the ATC formed the guard with Standard Bearers with a bugler to play the last post. They would assemble in the foyer of the Repertory Theatre in Centenary Square and proceed to the Hall of Memory for the service of dedication and remembrance.
Gordon always took part in the Wings Appeal collections and was totally dedicated to the RAFA family and was saddened when the branch closed two years before they moved to Cornwall. However Gordon was delighted to have the opportunity to join the newly formed branch at RAF St Mawgan.
The branch have been privileged to have known Gordon, albeit for such a short time, and will very much miss his experience especially during this Wings Week.
We are honoured to receive the sum of £ 425.00 from Rosemarie, Gordon’s wife, to be donated to the Wings Appeal in memory of Gordon.
